On the ground shortly

On my last flight I was disturbed by airline attendant’s choice of words over the speaker:
“And we will be on the ground shortly.”

Seriously? Would it be too much to ask to be a little more specific?
I mean, there are a lot of ways to get to-the-ground.

Is this just an “out” for the pilot?
“I’m a little shaky today, Jane. So, let’s not promise a landing so much.”
