Artist's Description

The largest Torii (Shrine Gate)in the Meiji Jinju Shinto Shrine stands over the entrance from the Meiji Jinju Mae Metro Station. The Shrine is built in the Nagarezukuri style and made from Japanese Cypress Trees from Kiso. Providing an oasis of peace in the middle of busy Tokyo, interred at the Shrine are Emperor Meiji (Era 1868 – 1912) and Empress Shoken. The shrine houses every type of tree species found in Japan.
