Artist's Description

Large Whip Goby, Bryaninops amplus
1 inch each, observed 70 feet deep
Peleliu Wall, Pelelu, Palau

This pair of small fish live their entire lives on a single long thin whip coral. This pair has laid eggs, visible as pale spots near the upper fish. On full zoom, eye spots are visible in the eggs, so they are near to hatching. The flower-like growths at the bottom are the coral’s polyps, open for feeding.

Shot with a Canon 7D and 100mm f/2.8L lens in an Aquatica housing with dual Ikelite DS-125 strobes.
