Artist's Description

Sunrise from the summit of Snowdon on Saturday 14th January 2012.

Mt Snowdon at 1085m (3560ft) is the highest peak in the Snowdonia National Park and mountain range in Wales, UK.

A little disappointed with the results from the day after setting off at 4am from home, we intended to make the summit of Snowdon a good hour before sunrise to start some long exposures capturing the full dawn. After total lack of prior preparation we had to make a stop at a local 24hr supermarket for some supplies and therefore missed our target summit time by about 30min, typically this 30min yielded some spectacularly vibrant colours filling the sky with pinks, oranges and reds as the Sun’s rays started to hit our little part of the Earth.

Whilst we missed the pictures the memories will remain be embedded forever!

The infamous ridge “Crib Goch” can be seen center left of the picture, overlooking Llyn Llydaw (the name of the lake in Welsh, not too sure of the translation) and miners trail to the old Brittania Mine. The Pyg trail can also be seen traversing roughly half way up Crib Goch.

3 exposures processed in Photomatix. Taken with a Nikon D7000 with 18 – 105mm lens.
