Artist's Description

Seventy years ago a little boy stood on a hillside and looked at the moon in wonder.
There had been no moon landings. Everest had yet to be conquered. Few people travelled by car. Fewer still travelled by air. No tourist trails traversed the wilderness areas of Earth.
Soft drinks were sold in glass bottles. Dry goods were sold in paper. Nappies were made of cloth. Shopping was taken home in a basket.
Man leaves his mark in the places he visits: he raises a flag, builds a cairn, writes graffiti or just discards his unwanted items – a back pack on the moon, a soft drink can in the Himalayas.
With an ever increasing number of people visiting more and more places we should be mindful of what we leave for others to find.

Take care of the earth and she will take care of you.
