Artist's Description

A Pair of Harris’s Hawks Hunting during a Falconry in the Wetlands of California. The red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey that breeds throughout most of North America, from the interior of Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies. It is one of the most common members within the genus of Buteo in North America or worldwide. The red-tailed hawk is a popular bird in falconry, particularly in the United States. where the sport of falconry is tightly regulated and where red-tailed hawks are both widely available and allowed to novice falconers. They are also long lived allowing a falconer to maintain a red-tailed hawk as a hunting companion for potentially up to two decades.
