THESE LITTLE CLAY CREATURES, ARE NATIVE AND HANDMADE BY “UNSKILLED” RURAL AFRICAN PEOPLE, LIVING IN MOZAMBIQUE.
THE CLAY ARE COLLECTED CLOSE TO RIVER BEDS AND PROCESSED FOR USE.
THE LITTLE “CREATURES” ARE THEN CREATED BY HAND. ONCE IT IS DONE, THERE IS A DRYING – OUT PROCESS OF 2 DAYS .
DRY GRASS, REEDS AND COCONUT PALM LEAVES ARE THEN COLLECTED AND THE LITTLE CREATIONS THEN GETS COVERED WITH THE COLLECTED DRY MATERIALS WHICH THEY SET TO LIGHT.
THEY KEEP THE FIRE BURNING (BAKING PROCESS OF THE CLAY) FOR APROX. 4 HOURS.
WHEN THE FIRE IS BURNT OUT, THEIR LITTLE “CREATIONS” IS LEFT TO COOL DOWN, WASHED AND THEN READY TO GO TO THE ROADSIDE FOR SALE TO TOURISTS. THIS IS THEIR DAILY LIVING AND ONLY INCOME.
THEY ALSO MAKE A VARIETY OF FLOWER AND PLANT CONTAINERS AND UGE “WATER CONTAINERS”.
THEIR ARE NO WATER SUPPLY IN RURAL AREAS IN MOZAMBIQUE.
WATER GETS COLLECTED FROM THE RIVERS AND THEN STORED IN THESE UGE HANDMADE CLAY WATER CONTAINERS.
THE “WATER PITS” THAT DOES EXCIST IN CERTAIN AREAS, IS EXCISTING PITS FROM BEFORE THE WAR THAT STARTED IN DIE 1970’S.
