Common resident. Distinctive plumage of breeding male differs in tapering tailfeathers; transitional plumage from the Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah. Small flocks mainly in thotnveld. Breeding male has a display flight in which the two short tail feathers are held erect, also hovers over females in slo, bobbing flight causing the tail to undulate. 12-38cm
