Namakwa combines the unspoilt expanses of Namaqualand and Hantam Karoo to form a region of exquisite natural beauty and contrast
NAMAKWA IS TRULY A LAND OF CONTRASTS.. For the major part of each year this seemingly arid expanse of sunbaked, sandy plains and granite mountains hides a wondrous secret.
With the first rains in early winter, these dry lands are transformed into a kaleidoscope to brilliant colour in spring.
Daisies, mesembryanthemums, perennial herbs, aloes, lilies and a host od other species create a tapestry on indigenous spring flowers which are unparalleled anywhere.
About 4,000 species of plant grow here.
Namakwa’s flora belongs to a category dealing with tropical flora of the ancient world known as the Palaeotropical Kingdom, and should not be confused with the so-called Cape flora, which is one of the six Floral Kingdoms found worldwide
