mysteries uncovered (poem)

having stifled my heart
and packed it away
for storage in hope
of a better time
to some day
far in the future
reacquaint myself with it
or maybe just
in the hope that
out of sight
means out of mind
or that this may
somehow
start a magical process
of restoration
I now realise
that pain and torture
in no way
constrain the capacity
for more love
if anything a paradox occurs
where the heart
requires further love
to heal itself and
mysteriously,
almost quizzically,
new love becomes the remedy
for old wounds and a broken soul
so that amongst the ruins
of old lives
new life sprouts
just like in nature
where graves
are covered in
grasses and flowers
and sit in the shades
of blushing trees
the heart
sometimes recovers
in the glow of
new love and
the warmth of
a gaze that looks
at it with an
open mind and
adoration
and takes it
and all the baggage
by the hand
back into the light
and
into a new spring.
