truths to be found in the rain

rain was falling on my face
when I knew
a first kiss lasts forever
nothing will ever be like this

my face was wet with rain and tears
when I knew
true love is a promise to be broken
a fairytale without the happy ending

rain drops tattooed the window pane
when I knew
the only truth to be found in this life
is the one carved out from your own skin

wet ink drying on white paper
taught me
all I knew

each letter
each syllable
each word

is mine
put to
the white in black

each line
mine to share
and another step to
understanding

rain is falling on my face
like the tears I cried
when the first kiss ended
when true love died
and all the truths were
hard ones to live through.
