Love Lost and Gone

The last sunbeams a wan haze,
rays flickering,
light all but gone

The last vestiges of scent vanished,
petals fallen,
colours washed out

The last notes of the song,
sounds dimming,
melody fading

The first sounds of the long night,
    soft fluting of owls calling,
moon beams pale in the dark

       The truce is broken,
       war has begun
       a new story starts
the old tale is come to an end

       Fluttering in a cold wind
       the tatters of memories,
       Torn, twisted and shattered
new bitter ones to replace them

       Harsh words and accusations
       blame, poison and hurt
       splattered, poured out and drowning
       the final flame extinguished.

History rewritten
a new tale told
of bitter hate and dark despair

Drums call to battle,
screaming and shouting,
the enemy is slain

Forgotten the scent of roses
Lost the warmth of the sun
Cursed the moment it began

Such is the tale of love lost and gone.
