Artist's Description

Not the best of shots, due to a rather strange sky the day it was taken, but I’m still quite pleased with it. It was taken 550 meters above the airport suburb of Frankton on the outskirts of Queenstown.

I’ve heard it said, that Queenstown Airport, has the smallest international airport runway in the Southern Hemisphere, however I can’t find anything to support that. It is however SMALL, measuring a mere 1,891m in length, and is paved in asphalt.

Lift off is extremely steep and immediate, due to the incredibly hight peeks of The Remarkables, which are dead ahead. The airport has three runways: the main being 1,891m long, with the two remaining GRASS runways being used for private charter flights, and helicopter flights. One is 800m in length, and the other 944m.

I’ll only leave it up for a short while, for anyone who may be interested in viewing!
