Artist's Description

Today as we do every Saturday, we visited my mother. We like to check everything is in order, that she is safe and that she can sometimes be happy in her life that in the last two months has changed. No longer does she have to visit the home daily, no longer the hospital visits and no longer the respite home. Instead she stays home in the house they had lived in for 30 years and tends to her garden and catches sun on the deck. Nicks garden sits, the weeds gather and the grapevine has gone crazy. No summer vegetables for this garden, no tomatoes for sauce this year, no pumpkins to store under the house for winter. Dead, the garden apart from its weeds are dead.

The blue bag that sits on Nicks chair reads “Morris and Morris”, thats the name of the funeral home where she said goodbye.

And every morning she takes Nick off his chair and holds him in her arms and says good morning.
