Memory Box

It took me moments to find my memory,
then bundle it up and squash it into that box,
where it sat upon my windowsill
looking idle and content.

I’d approach it from time to time,
sneaking by like a fox,
in the vague hope of it not catching a glimpse of me.

And then my thoughts spread like sand and i found

no box , no significant figure
nothing i wrote, nothing i read
no symbol or gesture

could capture that memory

It was locked inside my head like a bird caught in a wire cage and no matter how hard it tries to get out
it will remain the same.

And so i left it on my windowsill
but it’s size has decreased
i know not whether because of my eyes of the heat

but something has changed,
that little box said to me
something that was once so full
is now incomplete

but space cannot disappear it can only be rearranged
so i transferred that memory to my head…
a much more comfortable bed.
