Sherlock Holmes II

I am aware as I lie my body to sleep
that the life within it may not be there in the morning.
I wonder,
as I lie in the darkness,
if this is the night
that I become a casualty
of unfortunate causes.
Among the uncertainty,
my mind reverts to the memories of you
to ease my unrest.
I imagine your smile
during the nights we’d spend
lying on your couch,
and the way your eyes
would reflect the light from the TV’s glow
in the darkness
when you laughed.
And when you would bury your face in my neck
just to put your breath against my skin
because you knew exactly how I would respond.

When I finally succumb to my slumber,
my dreams are pleasant
and laden with your beautiful face.
