Artist's Description

Marble bust at Velia – modern Elea – of the great Greek Parmenides, friend of Zeno to whom the sculpture is credited. In his thinking and analysis of the human condition Parmenides pre-dated Freud by 2500-years in his thinking

5th century BC art work. Elea, Calabria, Italy.

Parmenides of Elea was a Presocratic Greek philosopher. As the first philosopher to inquire into the nature of existence itself, he is incontrovertibly credited as the “Father of Metaphysics.” As the first to employ deductive, a priori arguments to justify his claims, he competes with Aristotle for the title “Father of Logic.”

I had to click on this one because I thought it might be you! I wanted to see what sort of photo manipulation you had used to turn yourself into a statue. Instead, I find a real sculpture, very ancient yet is beautiful condition. Very interesting! Do you think this could have been you in a former life?

I love classical mythology and studied it extensively as part of my degree. This is striking! I love the clarity and the shadow in the stone, giving it a “real” feel.
