Artist's Description

Abstract Mixed Media; watercolor crayons, acrylic, modeling paste, tissue paper, oil pastel crayon

I started this piece at a workshop I attended and finished it at home today. Part of what is important about this painting is it continued testament to how painting and art helps me with depression.

I had been feeling pretty good, was working on organizing my art room but was not actively creating. I started feeling down and after a couple of days the depression was getting worse. My goal was to finish organizing before painting again but it became obvious I needed to paint and quick.

Fortunately this workshop was the very next day. Once I got my hands on watercolor crayons and brushes I was golden!

I told the instructor I wanted to start the painting by writing all the negative words and messages in watercolor crayon on the canvas and then cover them up with paint. My desire was making something beautiful out of the yuk I was feeling.
