Artist's Description

This 30×40 inch original oil painting was inspired by passion to bring back to life an old lighthouse which no longer lights the way. The beauty of this lonely shrine belies its ominous history. Several workers perished during its construction, due to the extreme weather conditions, such as waves crashing high enough to sweep over the top of the building. Terrible Tilly, as it came to be known, was shut down from operation several decades ago. The final keeper had gone insane and had to be forcefully removed from his post. Tillamook Rock is located a mile off shore just north of Cannon Beach, Oregon. When she isn’t shrouded in fog, one can catch a glimpse of her from Ecola State Park. No tourist boat traffic is allowed into the area.

A family in the Portland area purchased the property and converted it into a columbarium, a place to store cremation ashes. A helicopter transports its yearly cargo as weather permits.

In doing this painting, I wanted her light to shine again.
