Artist's Description

This original 16×20 oil on canvas depicts the north slope of Mount Joseph in eastern Oregon. The Nez Perce tribe was native to the area. They held the superstition that the spirit of a giant bear created the troughs in the snow by drawing his claws down the side of the mountain, and consequently were afraid to approach it.
