Artist's Description

Also known as the Writing Spider. This spider is a female 19-28 mm or 3 inches with the legs counted. They have 3 claws on each foot instead of 2, spin an orb web 2 to 8 ft off the ground and tend to be near open fields or your eavestroughs. The male is much smaller, quite plain and dies shortly after mating. Yes, sometimes she eats him. They are basically harmless to humans.
Photo taken in Renee’s garden , near an open field, Aug. 6/08.
