Artist's Description

Inspired by the thirteenth day of the Lent study “Atheism for Lent” – http://www.atheismforlent.net/social-principles/

Todays theme, at least my take from it, is the churches lack of response to social issues and the real needs of people, to speak for the voiceless, to be a light in a place of darkness, however as Marx accurately condemns “The social principles of Christianity transfer the consistorial councillors’ adjustment of all infamies to heaven and thus justify the further existence of those infamies on earth.” The church is too guilty of not doing enough, of setting up systems where the poor, disenfranchised, the despised, the outcast is not welcomed but rather shunned.

For me the church should instead echoe the words of William Booth, “While women weep, as they do now, I’ll fight; while little children go hungry, as they do now, I’ll fight; while men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I’ll fight; while there is a drunkard left, while there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I’ll fight-I’ll fight to the very end!”

Created in PS CS6, total time around 2 hours.
