Artist's Description

Capitol Reef National Park is in so many ways an inigma. It is in every regard interesting. It is in every regard beautiful. Yet for a photographer, and probably for most casual visitors, it does not “package” as well as some other National Parks. Capitol Reef National Park does not lend itself well to “bus stop” views. The shuttle service in Zion National Park is a huge success, with so much nature out every window and neatly packaged hikes and wanders, (plus much more.) Capitol Reef, on the other hand can have a novice visitor drive on alleged roads for long distances and then sometimes not know when they have seen their objective. I’ve enjoyed Capitol Reef area for many many years, and continue to delight in the range of views. Because of the vastness, and long wide views, it is all to easy to overlook the kind of explorations that await nearby, or hidden beyond the obvious. The subject of this view, including the Waterpocket Fold, is famous, but has the additional glory of relatively few visitors, even among the multitude of visitors to the Park. I love this view. I also love the “unpackageable” nature of so much of the Park.
