Dedicated to Saint Mary Magdaslene, it houses and venerates the Relics of Saint Camillus

Building work was completed in 1699. A further twenty eight years would pass before the church was finally consecrated in 1727. The architecture is in the Baroque style

Among those involved in the building project was Carlo Fontana, whose main claim to fame is his design of the Baptismal Font at Saint Peter’s Basilica, though there is some speculation that he also designed the Dome

It is thought that Don Santos supervised the installation of the Rococo Facade, though this remains unsubstantiated; it was finished in about 1735 and immediately faced severe criticism for appearing too florid. It subsequently became known as the ‘The Church of Sugar’
