These sorts of dwellings were frequently built by new settlers in the late 1800’s and were commonly called ‘Wattle & Daub’ huts. The pioneers used what was available at hand and used young sapplings of wattle trees of similar width and height and sliced them down the middle. A hut was quickly built this way, the cracks were sealed with mud (daub) and the roofs were often from bush growing nearby. There are still quite a few standing especially in country towns. Many like this one has been given some restoration to conserve as a historical reminder of out past.
New South Wales, Australia.
