Yesterday we came out of hibernation after the hottest Feb.day on record, 43.4 degrees and drove to Port Adelaide to view:——

‘The ’City of Adelaide’ clipper ship that carried settlers to South Australia in the late 19th century and the oldest of only two surviving Wooden clipper Ships – arrived at Outer Harbor at 6.30am yesterday aboard the cargo ship M.V, Palanpur.

A few hours later it arrived at berth 18 just north of the Diver Derrick Bridge over the Port River, almost 128 years after it last left the city it helped to build during the Golden age of sailing.

The Ship was greeted at Outer Harbor by the City of Adelaide Preservation Trust, which has worked for 13 years to bring her home.

Trust Director Peter Christopher, said that it was satisfying seeing the fruits of thousands of hours of Volunteer work & millions of dollars raised through govt. grants, business sponsorship & individual donations……… Excerpts from ‘The Advertiser’ News. Adelaide. South Australia.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get close until the ship has been lifted from the carrier probably today and the area made safe. There were constant people arriving at McLaren Wharf Port Adelaide, and eventually we caught on and we drove over the old Birkenhead Bridge to get to the other side of the Port River. This image was taken from wasteland almost opposite but this area was small & restricted with high fencing. The ship will be moved to Dock one for the public to visit in as shortest time possible.
