Camping on the Trail Challenge Placed in Australian Trails & Tracks
Group. Jan 2014
Umbrawarra Gorge is a beautiful place to visit, there is a good camping area just adjacent to the start of the trail along the banks of the water course. It winds over large flat rocks and narrow tracks to the widening of the gorge a fair way in. The sides are as sandy as a beach and the water is clear. The aging cliffs along the way are coloured with reds, ochre’s and gold. The native plants with colourful flowers and of course wild flowers in spring and pretty native birds. The rock hopping is fun and each bend brings new delights.
Stout walking shoes, & a pole is an advantage, hats, and drinking water along the walk is advised. I am not sure just how long the track is we spent the better half of a day. The Gorge is approx. 30klm from Pine Creek along dirt tracks and washouts in winter. It was pleasantly warm. Winter.
