looking for the gifts in the present, each day for a year
The annual ‘Party on the Oval’ in Pingelly, Western Australia is an event that always brings back to my heart how much I love my community. Every December the whole town celebrates Christmas and the end of the school year with a great big party on the oval, Santa comes on a tractor, escorted by the Fire and Rescue service, a sausage sizzle of course, cooked by the volunteers of the Pingelly SES Unit, the old bouncy castle manned by volunteers, water slides on sheets of plastic, and….fireworks. The very best display of fireworks around I reckon (the business that puts the fireworks display together has been coming to Pingelly now for years and I think they take great pleasure on doing a very special deal for our little town) All made all the more magical in the setting of a small community sharing the vibe, a safe environment for the kids running free and crazy with their mates. Everyone knows everyone, and on an evening like this, can put aside differences and just chip in to help out and enjoy a great community event. A gift.
Sadly, my fireworks photography leaves a lot to be desired…. but it is a gift anyhow, just as it is.
