We aren’t blessed with visits from these stunning insects very often. I have seen 4 individuals in 7 years here in Pingelly – one was dead, one was wheaten coloured in response to the dryness of vegetation and 2 visited in the space of 8 hours last week!
The first was a magnificent individual I discovered on my curtain in my bedroom late at night – great fearsome wing display and vivid colouring. Then this slightly smaller fellow on the verandah the next morning – lucky not to be stepped on, as it was sluggish in the cool of the morning and not highly visible on the bricks.
Usually they are high in the Wandoo, nibbling on leaves and doing their best to look stickish. The sticky season seems to have made all the critters behave a bit differently.
