Artist's Description

The first snails ever to be found on my property. Love them I do, in fact my father studies snails…..BUT a garden without this introduced feral pest;-Cantareus (Helix) aspersus, is a whole lot easier to grow things like strawberries in. I found these two on the side of a large pot. I have put them in a container to take into town and release, where there are plenty of friends for them. I couldn’t squoosh them, because I haven’t seen a snail in ages, and I almost miss them. They are very sweet. My children certainly do miss them, and I do wonder if these two were escapees smuggled in by my eldest daughter. Hmm, I do hope they have not mated and laid eggs!! I really do hope not.

Of course I could start a farm…I have eatn this species (after a fortnight on oatmeal) and they taste pretty good with garlic butter and parsley!
