Sadness

I have felt what sadness can become
Like a veil filtering my eyes
The world is separated
Split into tiny fragments of color
And the ensuing presence
Of something darker put before it.

Not unlike a heavy burden
Or the lost sigh of someone’s mistake
Lingering above
Pained and luminous
Words, regretted and misunderstood
Search among the dimness
To find what little light may be left.

The world is separated and I am alone
Shedding tears as many have done
Before me. Not to express pain
But to show a desire to seek those
Whom the heart had so regrettably
Left behind in this perverted midnight.

Even now I look upon shadows hoping
To recognize a shapely silhouette
Slender fingers, the faded outline
Of a forgiving smile or the melodic
Humming of a tender voice
Whose memory now threatens to
Leave the grasp of a forlorn mind.

I am alone and wished it to be so
As soon as darkness fell and the hour
Of her passing slowly crept
From my aging recollection
And into the growing silence
Though even now the wind
Mocks me with her scent
The sky mimics the
Darkness of her flesh
And the ocean lovingly captures
The depths of her soft, searching eyes
