Matrimony

Let’s think of this as our matrimony.
Our wedding night
Maybe we won’t need the candles
And soft music
Chocolate covered trinkets
Signifying the cliché
Of what love was forced to be.
Maybe we won’t need those things
As we once thought we would.
Maybe we won’t need those three words
Told to us on moonlit nights
Harmonious clearings
For us to gather the meaning
Of why we were ever here together
It would be nice
Just to have ourselves
And nothing else
Just our bodies
And nothing else
We won’t hide behind those silk sheets
Any longer.
