We stored ourselves
In the cabinet above the kitchen sink.
To hide away from visitors
Or strangers searching for those
Missing parts of us.
But we were smarter than them
Keeping those fragile parts of us
In glass and water.
Always gentle though,
You can’t knock too hard,
Move too fast
Or things will start to shatter
Leak from the jars above.
You can’t let those parts
Be aware they are hidden
Or they’ll start to make a sound
As secrets, kept in silence
Often do.
Just smile the days away
And if you need to,
Leave the only the nights to question
If separating yourself from yourself
Was ever the right choice in the first place.

wow! your writing is better with each poem…I love this line
-To hide away from visitors-Or strangers searching for those
Missing parts of us.
and , this one
-If separating yourself from yourself—Was ever the right choice in the first place.
great way to cap it all off
But,, of course, it seems that strangers seek more than some already familiar as friends…it makes me wonder why those closest to us don’t even know us….
Yet, we also hide ourselves and put ourselves away for the sake of keeping the peace or some other surface concern.
We all wear masks for different people under different circumstances, in essence we separate ourselves from ourselves, as you put it…but, the sad thing is when you wear the real face, no one sees into it.
Oh thank you so much Mychael. That just made my day. Indeed we all do wear masks, and that makes it much harder to take that mask off. We become so used to the illusion. How does anyone know what’s real and what’s fake anymore?
its awesome lolowe! you depicted well! huggles xoxox
Thank you Ushna!
Really great stuff. An interesting perspective on the problem of masks.
Thank you Zolton, yeah the concept of masks are just so complex sometimes.
the masks, though, can make up all of who you are, separately they may be understood as disguises or lies..but, once i mentioned, that all is truth…the problem is when some wear a particluar mask so often they forget who they are
It’s true, so doesn’t that make it hard for a person to realize what is real or fake anymore…or has the wearing of that mask become so ritualistic that illusion has now become the new reality?
Good one,. liked it
Thank you. This topic is an interesting one to me. :]
when people live a lie for so long they tend to come to believe it themselves and the original truth lost…so, now, the lie became the truth for them.
But, also we like certain aspects of ourselves much better than certain other traits and characterisitcs and then lock ourselves into that particular trait or mask, but most simply put forth those traits to others that suit the situation, which is not a bad thing. If we didn’t do so, nobody would get along . It may seem a false front, but it is actually just one side of us.It doesn’t make us any less real, yet, as I reiterate, the problem is with staying stuck in that one trait.
But,as it is okay to show different faces, sometimes, it appears you are contradictory, even hypocritical, but, usually that is a misnomer on the part of the one making a judgment.
But, you may notice when two people get to know one another well, all of those aspects may be exposed. You may not like all of those aspects of someone, but, on the whole you like most of them or you wouldn’t be with them…therein, is the importance of communication.
Hmm…that’s a great way to put it…
our whole history is built upon legend which is not exactly the truth, but has become truth to millions…between fact and legend, the legend is much more interesting…legends may be based somewhere in fact, but they embellishments, exaggerations, or sheer outright fancy…the truth no longer matters.
We are no different as individuals, for the most part. would you rather listen to someone who tells tales or someone who spouts dates and data?
I would rather hear tales…makes things more interesting.
so would I, and you wouldn’t believe some of the tales I could tell…
great writing lolowe, secrets making sounds in silence, a brilliant concept
Thank you Luke, I really appreciate you reading this ;}
