A String Of Fancies

See the dancing fairies,
They move like echoes in the twilight
Round and round the willow trees,
Shadowed by the moonlight.
Glistening eyes of starshine,
Full of mystery, dreams and awe,
Their daintiness, still as fine
As t’was the first time that I saw.

I’ve been back once, then twice,
To watch the magic orb.
The silver webs of ice
Are woven, just once more.
The dancers in my heart,
They haunt me, night and day,
Pierce love with a dart!
They insist I musn’t stay.

Oh why, oh why, oh why?
May I not join your merry games?
Why, oh why, oh why?
Can’t we be one and the same?
Let me please skip o’er that sunbeam,
Fairy girl, so sweet
You are, it seems, my wildest dream!
Oh won’t you talk to me?

We could do such wonderous things,
If you’ll just let me play,
We’ll skip and hide, we’ll dance and sing-
Let’s fill this magic day
With blissful times and joyous songs
’T’would be a great delight,
To listen in and hum along
To natures soothing plight.

Pretty waves of darkness
Spill on me through the trees,
The magic seemed so harmless!
But now it’s taken me-
To a world of no reality,
Where to desire is to recieve,
There is no word ‘iniquity’ ,
And to know is to believe.

The fairies dance so marvellously,
The rivers flow with love
I no longer hold my jealousy,
Of the fairies and the doves.
To watch is to admire,
To know : to understand
We dance around the fire,
The fairies and I stand hand in hand.
