Artist's Description

I believe this is a member of the Cherokee tribe as the tribal homeland is located in nearby western North Carolina. The possession of Bald Eagles alive or dead, as well as feathers or any body part is in violation of the migratory bird act and is punishable with a $5,000 fine +/- jail time. Native Americans however, may apply to the U. S. Department of Fish & Wildlife to legally possess them, as it is such an intrinsic part of their heritage. This law still exists even though the Bald Eagle is no longer on the endangered species list.
