Artist's Description

My fondness for dried roses has probably made my family wonder about me sometimes. I have a little box full of them … waiting for the spirit to move me to put some lovely still life images together. There’s something about the texture and the subtle changes to the colors of flowers that are past their prime that, to me, make them as lovely as when they were fresh. Maybe it’s the love and the consideration behind the giving of them that infuses a form of eternal beauty.

Some things really do get better with age.

I wish I could give you the name of this rose, but unfortunately I cannot. I used to grow roses … at one time I had about 25 different tea roses, but the deer and the black spot and most especially the cane borers got the best of me. This variety was not one of them. If anyone has an idea what their name is, I’d love to hear it.

Original photographic image taken with the Nikon D300 and the Nikkor nifty-fifty 50mm f/1.8 in May of 2012 (they were a birthday gift from my husband … and at that time would have been sitting around for about 5 weeks). Completely digitally hand-painted in Corel Painter 2015.
