My cheap and nasty lighting set up

I have had a few mails from folks wanting to know about the lighting I use for stock.

Well, my studio stuff is hopefully only a few months away. But meanwhile I have been putting up with this rig.

Basically, the main lights are cheap construction lights. The twin 500w halogens came from Bunnings (Home Depot I guess in the USA) for $25. I have a support desk lamp to iron out any shadows.

I sit the pieces on a piece of coloured plastic I purchased from an art store. They rest on a couple of old pillows.

The trick I have found is to buy decent bulbs and replace the Chinese bulbs you get in the pack. They do not last long, and they have a horrible yellow tinge that is hard to fix in Photoshop.
