Artist's Description

Growing up I had a Step-Father. He was English and lived through the second world war as a small boy. He told me a story about the uncle of his father named Eric. Eric (an elderly man) had been married for many years until his wife passed away. Not being able to live with the void in his life, one day Eric walked to the pebbly beach, stripped down and swam out into the cold English sea. He swam and swam, to the point of exhaustion. Eric had no intention of coming back as there was nothing to come back to. Every now and then, I think of this story and find it very sad and yet so very sweet. Eric now belongs to the sea.
