There is no bad without the good

I am waiting for this day to end soon because it has been a horrible one…
I live in the centre of Tallinn in a 5 storey building on the 4th floor. Some days ago they started demolishing the 5th floor because they want to build one floor more and make four double storey flats there. Our building is very old, probably from year 1930 and it’s only natural that things are bad here anyway. I predicted that something is going to happen to our flat…so my hubby insured the place some weeks ago. Today the workmen upstairs were told not to touch the water or heating pipes. Which of course right after that they did…. The water pipe was so rusty that it fell to million pieces, of course they hadn’t turned the water off…. So it started raining in my living room/ kitchen. I rushed upstairs and was really upset, shouted at the men: what the hell are you doing?…They were somewhat surprised that it’s leaking. Anyway one guy rushed down to the basement to turn the water off. But it took about 5 minutes when the water finally stopped rushing down, I mean it was only visible as little drops through my ceiling panes at first but i could hear it forming a pool there. “Nice guys” as they were they just came and had a small look and then continued their work….I had to look for towels and pots to secure my living room from total damage. the holes and gaps became bigger and more water started coming through from various points….I was soooo upset. Somehow I managed to call the insurance company and send them a claim. At some point our chairman of the building came and had a look. He’s a really nice and helpful guy so we managed to drill some holes into the ceiling and got 5 small buckets of water out. :S Several hours later it has almost completely stopped raining, some drops here and there. But the ceiling is damaged and needs to be taken down at some point, at the moment its so humid in here and I’m guessing the mould wont take long to start forming…
This was only one of the problems that happened today. My husband is working in Norway at the moment and he had just 2 minutes before my call a bad work related phone call, they now need to undo some of the work and redo it again….big job.
My grandma got locked into their basement. Someone had just locked the door from the outside. Luckily she had her mobile with her and there was coverage so she got out.
But as the title says there is no bad without the good. The chairman of our building came back later and handed me a big bottle of whiskey :D So I mixed it with juice and am drinking it now, don’t like it straight from the bottle.
And the other good thing is that someone bought 2 postcards from me today!! It’s my ever so popular otter image. Thank you for lighting up my day just a wee bit!
