An evening with Andris Apse

I’ve just spent 2 hours listening to and watching the images of Andris Apse at the Wellington City Gallery.
It was grounding and gave me such a good feeling to meet the man behind the images and to learn that he was such a ‘real’ person in the down to earth sense. I don’t think that you could take the time and travel to the places he photographs without being someone very close to the earth and nature.
The entire evening was unscripted or prepared and he talked fluently and with great heart about his photographic experiences, feelings thoughts and stories about achieving each shot. He spoke and showed images of New Zealand landscapes and a recent Antarctica experience.
It was a great pleasure and highlight shaking his hand afterwards.
