Artist's Description

Orchids are so elegant. They really stand out in comparison to other flowers with their thick waxy petals and intricate hearts. I created this image of cascading purple orchids to enhance their elegance.

There are a variety of meanings assigned to the orchid.

In ancient Greece it was believed that orchids were a symbol of fertility and virility. It was even believed that consuming the flower could determine the sex of an unborn child. If the father of an unborn child ate large, new orchid tubers then they would have a boy. If the mother ate small orchid tubers she would have a girl. If you are trying to have a baby this could be a meaningful gift for your spouse. Or this could be a pretty and meaningful gift for someone who is expecting a baby.

The ancient Chinese interpreted the orchid flower as a symbol for many children.

Due to the rarity of these tropical flowers, they were the epitome of luxury in Victorian times. In that era, only the over rich could have afforded these exotic blooms. Orchids still have the connotation of luxury and opulence. This print will be sure to add a touch of opulence and class to any decor.

Perfection, Beauty and Refinement:
Today orchids are generally regarded as a symbol of rare and elicit beauty due to their perfect symmetry and fragility. A perfect present for a beautiful woman.
