Children & Art

Teaching children art is something I have had much experience in.

For the most part i think it is far more important for children to see art – than to be ‘taught’ about art. The most honest and best responses i have gotten from children is when they are free to interpret and are in a relaxed atmosphere, in this environment children have honestly taught me a thing or two.

When they are ready they will began to ask about the art or give their opinion. I think it is important to listen to what they say than to offer information or bias.

My children have always been exposed to art and often see more than is apparent in some seemingly bland items. It is an enrichment, the schooling side of things will progress as it naturally does should the interest stick, but in the meantime take your children to galleries, opening nights, art parks, borrow art books from the library – let them pick, even if they are toddlers. Sculpture is something children respond to, yet it is something adults can be intimidated by.

I would recommend HeideModern
