Artist's Description

YOUR WORLD, ALMOST INSIDE-OUT. Schematics of Morin surfaces, with quarter section flattened and the tetrahedrons, or “East sections” with quarter sections joined. A Morin surface is the half-way model of the sphere eversion discovered by Bernard Morin who, though blind from the age of six, used it to prove a lower bound on how many steps are needed to turn a sphere inside out. Morin surfaces feature fourfold rotational symmetry, meaning they can be separated into four congruent quarter sections referred to as East, South, West, and North. They have quadruple points through which pass their axes of symmetry, and they are the starting and end points of six lines of double points — with each quarter section bounded by three lines of double points making each quarter section homeomorphic to a triangle. www.ThinkerCollection.com. © 2015 Textiles for Thinkers, LLC.
