Artist's Description

i took this picture the day that alma college caught on fire and burnt to the ground.

built in 1877, and opened as an all girl school in 1881, this gothic victorian style college was known all over the world.

young college women came from all over the world to attend this gorgeous school.

on wednesday may 28, 2008 two young highschool boys committed a horrible act of arson, luckily for them, nobody was killed.

there were protesters outside the gates, standing up for their beliefs that Alma College not be demolished by the city… to keep it standing… afterall.. it IS a historical landmark.

it now lays in a pile of old rugged bricks, charred wood and twisted metal, and the only thing that survived the fire was the chapel [aka: abbey]

the annual reunion was coming up a couple weeks after so the community decided to come together to clean up the amphitheatre so the ladies of the school would have something to come back to. i have a photo of the amphitheatre posted on here aswell. its called risen from the ashes of dear alma

to see more about alma college, just search “alma college, st thomas ontario” you’re guarunteed to find something.

its very weird walking by and not seeing it anymore. it just looks so empty.
it was like the CN Tower of our town.. you could always see the top of it.

I also posted a photo of the college I took about a month before it burnt down, and the twisted metal that once held beautiful stain-glass windows at the chapel after the fire occured.
