Fifty Four Reasons I have Grown----part2-Mothers and daughters

Sunny warm day, time to go out side to play
Mother was six months pregnant with babe
She set out our little table and chairs
Father made for us Christmas year before.

I was only seven, my sister Susie was three
Mother said it was time for cookies and tea
She handed me a table cloth, tin cups and plates
Little sister and I set the table at great pace.

Mother told us no table is complete without flowers
So off to the field we ran with a canning jar filled with water
Picked daises, black eyed susans and Queen Annes lace
She showed us how to arrange them and set them into place

Our baby dolls were in their cradles, that daddy also made
Mother came back out with cookies and lemonade
We sat and chatted, pretended we were famous and rich
The lemonade really quenched our thirst

Mother went back inside to bake some bread while we played
We chatted along about our husbands who were away at war
And how we missed them, and couldn’t wait for the day
They came home safe and sound, and missed us even more.

A baby cried, time to feed, rock them, sing a song
Burped them until they were content, and fell asleep
Hush little baby don’t you cry, mommy is here
Rocked the doll cradles under a crisp blue sky.

We were tired too, it had been a long day, time for our naps
Stretched out beside each other on a quilt under the shade
Eye lids heavy, heads full of dreams rushing
Mother peaked out the window and smiled at her babes.

Her chest filled with pride at the imagination she created
She rubbed her belly filled with babe, for in her heart she knew
It would be another girl, another one she would teach
Womanly ways of the world.

She had a head start, for this child would have two older sisters
To guide her, show her, and share what mothers do
Daddy needed to get busy, one more doll cradle to make
She would be here before Christmas, her doll would need a bed.

Christmas morn came with out disappoint
A baby sister named Mary Ann
Another doll cradle under the tree
What could be better, we were sisters three.

Every summer on warm, sunny days
The table, chairs and cradles came outside to play
We picked our flowers, drank our lemonade
And laughed and sang songs, mother showed us the way.

This is dedicated to our loving mother who never ceases to be there for us, guide us, share her wisdom, and let us know she loves us so.. LOVE YOU MOM YOUR THE GREATEST!!written 11/17/2009-linmarie
