Victoria’s Boot..

Fire place mantel was empty
Christmas was near
Busy knitting mittens
For her children too wear.

Victoria decided her boot was still pretty
Worthy of a decorating vase
She cut pine boughs and holly
Set them in it for a festive display

Smells of pine, bright berries to see
Fire was lit each night
Her babes stood at the fireplace
Warming toes and fingers by candles light.

No fancy china, no vase to hold
Mother Natures beauties of pine and berries
Her one simple boot she treasured was the vessel
Of remembering her Christmas of old.

How special she felt when mum and dad
Gave her those boots, she was a little one
Her feet out grew them, into a chest they went
She had a vision now of a new purpose.

Layers of leather, hand picked
Iron molds put too her feet for the right fit
Each and every color where her choice
Mother explained, she is Victoria, it’s her gift.

Father was practical, not sure of the look
He worried She would be mocked at school
Children would scorn her for her choice
Her boots look so different from what others had voiced.

That’s alright let her grow, she will only learn
From others laughter and scorn
She is simple in heart and loves the art
Of something different,, that is what sets her apart.

Leaving from a gala one night, she lost one boot
Was running for her life
Others poked and knocked her down
But all they wanted was one boot,, it was a prize.

So after all these years, marriage, children and Christmas tunes.
One of Victoria’s boots came out as a lesson learned
Heart and soul was what she found
A few berries and pine boughs.

A Holiday Vase she made from her boot that did escape from scornful, mean frowns
For it is Christmas now
The Lord forgave their ignorance and lack of grace
He bares their taunts upon his wings.

Mixed media painting, the boot is an old craft called IRIS PAPER FOLDING. then I painted all the foliage and berries with acrylic paints-2009
