Four Years Later...

I settled once
It seems so far away
Yet haunts me
Each and everyday…
that I am witness to the pain in her eyes

Yes, her
Remember her
My sweet innocent child
My girl
My Princess
A piece of my Portrait
You hurt her, you scorned me
You crushed us all

Yet, we are survivors
We still have each other
To hold
To remember
We curse you almost everyday
Your name is the ugliest word in our vocabulary
A reminder of how Mom settled one day
For a man
Who did not deserve this love
Could not embrace his family without
Envy and pain
You lose
We win
But not without torment
Mom got sad
Real sad
And we got worried
Worried that you might have made her weak
Then who would hold us up
She cried over-and-over
And couldn’t see our tears
Only her…
And Rage

Mom found her way back to us
And helps us heal now
Stronger than ever
Smarter than she was
Smart enough to never settle

Can you hear…
The emptiness of your own soul
The echo of your cell
The muffled screams of many young girls
Scarred by touch
Motivated by the insecurities and weakness that define your life

Can you hear…
My daughter
My princess
Struggle to say ‘no’
Fight with herself to find self-love

Can you see…
My Girl
Struggle to smile
Settling for this pain that you have gifted her

On this day, we settle no more
We give you back this pain you have inflicted upon us
For it is yours to bear
It is you who must stand before Our Creator
And be judged
Blessed Be

About four years ago, my daugher disclosed her sexual abuse at the hands of my husband. He got 22 years for this pain, yet her healing has yet to begin.
