Treasure Hunt

She wondered what she could possibly give to one who had everything
What treasure from her paltry supply could she a peasant girl bring
She prayed for guidance and then began looking for something to grant
Perhaps a fine trinket or bauble sweet, she’d find in things precious, if scant

Look though she might she could not find a suitable gift to supply
When then she recalled Mistress Shipton’s Cave not far from her modest shanty
Surely there is something yet to be found something the soothsayer buried
She climbed the cave steps to happen upon something the prophetess carried

Twas dark and dank and grateful was she for a lantern to light her way
As she carefully climbed over many a rock to discover a treasure that day
Looking for riches she spied something strange hidden by many large stones
She moved the huge boulders and there found a box, wooden with rich warm tones

As she opened the case her eyes were ablaze and tears seemed to bathe her intent
While looking for gems she eyed a pearl of great price; a gift that was heaven sent
A very old bible printed all these years past was guarded, preserved for her Lady
Her treasure found, this scripture bound, exquisite ‘mongst all things shady
