We Build our Fragile Egos

We build our fragile egos with houses made of straw
Strands of golden glittered gauze to dress our every flaw
We weave the strips haphazardly into a makeshift wall
And ask the world to bear us up in case we start to fall

The world is often fickle and finds another host
One who seeks its influence and leans on it the most
Without the worldly winsome way we shrivel up and die
Our house collapsed, our ego bruised, with nothing left to buy

Bruised and broken vessels, we bow us to the ground
Need someone strong to help us up..we’re lost and must be found
Unlike the world our Savior comes with healing in His wings
And constant like a flowing stream He ministers and sings:

My precious child come hide in me until your journey’s end
I’ll lend you strength and sustenance; to every need I’ll tend
Your worth is great in my sight, your house is made of fire
I will hold you close to me and grant your heart’s desire

Our body is a temple now, our ego left awhile ago
We’ve built a sure foundation, our character in tow
Our energy is fueled by fire, the Holy Spirit tunes our lyre
Hymns of praise we gladly raise to Him who leads our choir
