Oh Monterey

Oh Monterey I long to walk your rocky shore
Where breakers crash hard against the crags
Like the pianist pounds the keys to crescendo
In a dramatic musical score

I hear the sea calling me to breathe its salty air
To brave its beach at high tide tonight
An invitation I accept with great joy
Since nothing comes close to even compare

I’ve tremendous respect for the powerful sea
For its depths and its waves and its wind
For creatures that dwell within and without
And various dangers there surely be

Often I sink my hot toes into the cool, wet sand
Then sit on a rock near the water’s edge
Watching the swells leave white frothy foam
Before they recede from the once dry land

My session with the sea tonight off Ocean Way
Was all that I hoped it would be and more
As I listened to the peaceful roar of tide
I knew I’d return to my seaside display
